Grant Award

The Town of Cameron was awarded $23,750 in grant funding from the New York State Office of Community Renewal (OCR), a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) partner. This money, along with $1,250 from the Town of Cameron, was used to conduct a Town-wide housing needs assessment. Southern Tier Central Regional Planning and Development Board (STC), a special purpose local government agency directly funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) as well as Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties, conducted the assessment and worked closely with Town residents to identify housing needs and provide a foundation for community renewal.

STC conducted exterior housing condition surveys by car, or “windshield surveys,” and received comments from a community-wide survey. This data was then used to create a working document prioritizing homes in need of rehabilitation or replacement, along with things such as septic and well needs, infrastructure needs, and other needs community members were able to identify in the survey.

This information will be used by the Town to prioritize and implement future housing and policy decisions, secure housing-related program financing for residents, and address various community needs. On August 10, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. STC will present the results of the housing study at the Town of Cameron Justice Court Room. STC will provide options for low-to-moderate income residents in Cameron in need of housing repair or rehabilitation and will be available to answer questions from the public.

If you have any questions about this upcoming meeting, please contact Maggie Costello, Planner with STC at mcostello@stcplanning.org (607- 962-5092) or Bob Manley, Town Supervisor (607-769-3412). Note from Bob Manley, Supervisor of Cameron: Please plan to attend this important meeting and review the results of our Town-wide Community Development Block Grant survey. We will also discuss what happens next, such as having grant money available to qualifying Town residents for refurbishment, replacement, etc. If you are interested in having any type of rehabilitation done to your home, there will be a representative there to assist you.
